Sound & Soul: Celebrating Black Music Month

Quilter, Regina Abernathy celebrates the rich history and profound impact of Black artists on American culture with a quilt exhibition and presentation for Black Music Month. Abernathy will explore the impact of Black Music Month, which was established in 1979 by the late President Jimmy Carter to honor the invaluable contributions of Black musicians to the nation’s cultural fabric. Using quilts and music, participants will discover the evolution of Black music—from spirituals and blues to jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and beyond. Learn how Black musicians have not only shaped history but also influenced global culture and inspired powerful movements for change through their artistry and resilience.
