Sound & Soul: Celebrating Black Music Month
Quilter, Regina Abernathy celebrates the rich history and profound impact of Black artists on American culture with a quilt exhibition and presentation for Black Music Month. Abernathy will explore the impact of Black Music Month, which was established in 1979 by the late President Jimmy Carter to honor the invaluable contributions of Black musicians to the nation’s cultural fabric. Using quilts and music, participants will discover the evolution of Black music—from spirituals and blues to jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and beyond. Learn how Black musicians have not only shaped history but also influenced global culture and inspired powerful movements for change through their artistry and resilience.

In honor of Black History Month, join us for the Warrensville Heights Black History Program at the Warrensville Heights Civic & Senior Center on Wednesday, February 26th, starting at 6 PM. The event will host a book signing with author and quilter Regina Abernathy, President of the African American Quilt & Doll Guild. She will be on hand with copies of her newly released book, The Quilting Storyteller: Preserving African American Culture and History through Quilting Stories. Come out for refreshments and explore the new Innovation Center.

Water Bottle Doll Workshop
Join artist Carolyn Graham of Cleveland’s African American Quilt and Doll Guild (AAQDG). Participants will use simple materials—a recycled water bottle, fabric, yarn—to transform them into a doll that represents their individual identity. Two sessions are provided. - February 18th and 25th. Participants can attend either or both. Carolyn is a quilter, doll maker, creative art teacher, leather jewelry designer, and a native of Cleveland. Free. All ages. All experience levels. Supplies included.
